Fires Power Outages

• The number one cause of cooking fires is unattended cooking, so stay in the kitchen.

• Remember, loose clothing can catch fire when cooking.

• Keep pan handles turned away from you to prevent spills.

• In case of a cooking fire: Slide a lid over the flames, use baking soda to extinguish the flames, never use flour or water on cooking fires.

• If the fire is in the oven, close the oven door and turn off to extinguish.

• Always keep a fire extinguisher handy in the kitchen.

• Have a working smoke detector, and be sure to test it regularly.
